Up for sale, a 1951 Fender Pro in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This was the very first iteration of this classic lacquered tweed 'TV front' model, and this era Pro is perhaps best known as being the amp Buddy Holly recorded all of his hits on at the Norman Petty studio in New Mexico. A very powerful and high fidelity amp in its day, the Pro pushed close to 40 sweet and dynamic tube watts through one 15' Jensen P15N alnico speaker. The early octal preamp tubes give these TV front amps a different tonal color than any later Fenders, as the octals have a more girthy midrange and a kind of warmth that can't be achieved with the later dual triode (12AX7, etc) tubes Fender used from the mid 1950s through the present day. Just like you'd expect with Buddy Holly's cutting and robust rhythm sound, the Pro can give you primitive Fender cleans that chime and growl, with surprising headroom and a tone that overall really fills out the frequency spectrum when paired with Fender's single coil pickups of the day. There's nothing like playing an early Fender through the amp for which it was designed! The cabinet has been professionally restored with new aged and lacquered tweed and a comfortable modern leather handle.

So for the amp I'm restoring, I want to clean the faceplate which has raised lettering. It is steel, with brown paint as the background (so the lettering and logo is raised steel). I would love to make the steel shine, without removing any of the brown paint. Is this possible, and if so, how? Never use undiluted bleach on a porcelain tub because of the danger of pitting. Undiluted bleach can remove the finish on porcelain, which 'pits' it-making it look and feel rough. Use a stain-removing cleanser on rust. How to Clean Bathroom Fixtures.

This is one of the most convincing and well executed retweeds we've ever seen here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and the work was done by Gregg Hopkins, co-author of the notable Ampeg: The Story Behind the Sound book. Hopkins' work is truly a cut above the rest, using the correct tweed and pattern originally used by Fender and tasteful, authentic aging of the tweed including simulated 'water damage' on one of the lower sides of the cab, a simulated drink stain and other small touches that convince you this amp has been lightly gigged and lovingly played for decades, which is likely the case, but now the new tweed reflects such aging while still appearing vintage correct! While the circuit is largely original on this amp with stock transformers, green Cornel Dubilier, Sprague 'Black Beauty' and Astron tone caps in the preamp, cloth wire and carbon comp resistors, the power amp has been professionally recapped so as to work within original factory spec. The three potentiometers have also been replaced with modern Alpha equivalents and all four jacks are factory spec modern Switchcraft replacements. These small upgrades guarantee that the amp will work as it should, with a reliability and pristine tone that's hard to achieve with a 60+ year old amp. The chassis itself is in good overall condition, with only light rust and pitting on the faceplate and most of the original white, silkscreened text intact. All three original chickenhead knobs are present, while the on/off switch is a replacement as well as the jewel lamp cover which glows emerald green.

The tube chart is mostly present and intact with one missing corner and wear along the top edge, although the 'Pro' name and 5A5 circuit designation are intact and legible. The original Jensen speaker has a clean 1951 date code on the edge of the teal frame, and the Jensen name is visible on the original bell cover. The speaker has been professionally reconed in recent years, with clear and focused low end, having been worn in just enough to deliver highs that are smooth without any 'ice pick' top end frequencies. In this post, I'll walk you through the process of removing rust from your vintage sewing machine in order to clean and restore it. If there's rust on it, you don't want to risk having it spread to other parts of the sewing machine. Generally, most rust I've discovered is on the surface of the machine, rather than on internal parts, which were oiled/lubricated-this helped to prevent rust. Faceplates and other external metal parts seem especially prone to rust.Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, which means I may receive a percentage if you make a purchase using these links.
